From Red to Bread, The Search For Fulfilment

Being in debt is like being hungry; we know what we need to balance ourselves and the rest is down to finding the means of doing so. The search for fulfilment in our lives can be a bit like going to an empty bank account or an empty cupboard, and we come up short, now with disappointment to add to our hunger.

When you think about ways to bring fulfilment into your life you may overlook the obvious things because they have ceased to feel like they are fulfilling you at all. Family life can often be like this as we take for granted the things we see every day. Even the most beautiful child or loving partner can cease to bring us joy that they once did. Why is this and how can we change this situation into a positive one?

Through daily life there is much in the way of repetition, and some days you are waking up and thinking ‘oh here is another day, just like yesterday, and the day before that!’
You are ceasing to see the joy and uniqueness of every day because you have become dulled with expectation.

Expectation is like a blindfold that can keep us from seeing the most beautiful aspects of life in the full spectrum of colours that they truly are. The blindfold is very subtle and almost translucent in the way that it mixes with a normal happy mind. You may wake up and think you are fine, but there is something very quietly tugging at the back of your mind which is so easy to ignore. This is your inner being trying to let you know that you have let the blindfold envelop you and now your sight is fading to the beauty of your life.

Now you may think here, ‘But Hopie, my life is so dull already and all I see is ugliness and I don’t feel fulfilled at all’ and in return I would lovingly and gently remind you that when you were born, everything was bright and clear to you! Indeed it took you many years of practice to learn to accept the blindfold of expectation, because you were so ready to see the beauty in everything but the adults in your world were constantly telling you to think differently, that you should see things in a different way. And so you did! You learned to dull your moment by moment sense of wonder and interest in the world to fit in with the prescribed world ruled by adults who also wore these blindfolds as their parents had done before them.

So you can see that it is because of your learned heritage, and not your spiritual heritage that today you wear so many cloaks and masks that reality is elusive to you in it’s truest colours and meanings.

Take heart my dear friends that with the process of awareness that you are now embarked upon, it will very soon become apparent to you where you are expecting things to be dark when really they are bright, where you are expecting things to be bright where they are rightfully dark. Why try and change the elements that already exist, even people are like nature and have their ways deeply drafted.

Take of your blindfold and relearn how to see again my dear ones as there is so much in a day that is sent to enliven your world and will bring fulfilment to your hearts. You must do the initial work and be honest but the rewards are an emotional bank account full of love and the bread of life is waiting there on the table for you to share with the world.

Meditate and see that this is truth.

Yearning to be understood?

When you are asking the world to understand you, you are really standing outside of yourself.
You are the one who should be asking for understanding from your own internal being, not from external sources.

Once again this is another manifestation of seeking love in all the wrong places.
Be assured that this is a natural tendency in cultures that put the most attention on external objects and teach their people to desire them from an early age.

The power of understanding is like standing under the waterfall of our own manifest destiny.
We accept all the pouring waters of life as they come upon us and the goose flesh that tells us the water is cold.
We allow the cold waters to have their effect on us, to wash us clean, to invigorate and enliven us, first.
This is experience.
Then we may take a step back and see what we have done, to analyse the effects of standing beneath the waters.
This is contemplation.

You cannot achieve understanding about anything without your own passage of contemplation.
You may read others’ understandings or teach your own and receive many views from others, but there is no substitute to your own unique interpretation of your particular experience.

However, you must have experiences to contemplate or there is no grist for the mill!
So go out and live your life and forget about this desire to be understood for a little while and accept that you are not understood.
This is a good place to start contemplation.

When we have found that standing in the waterfall is good, we may do it again at any time, or we may decide we prefer a lake or a river.

Without experience there can be no defining of our preferred ways of interacting with life, and you may need many years of interaction with life in order to achieve a clear picture of what is best for you.

So then, seek not to be understood by others, for your experience is unique and it is impossible for anyone to fully grasp the depths of your waters or how fast they run.

All you can hope for is to understand your own self, for there is no one else more qualified to do this than YOU!

When you have finally gleaned some understanding, which will grow in time, you can then begin the task of helping others to achieve their own understandings, but with the knowledge that they too are unique.
You can communicate to them to the best of your ability how good it feels to understand yourself and share your process of achieving that state of being. They are then able to take what inspiration they can, and aspire to find understanding for themselves.
This is a great talent and is the kind of nurturing we all seek.

Each of us has a gift for the world, and understanding yourself is the greatest of these. To understand self is to understand humanity and is a worthy quest, so begin now to turn in and observe your own rich inner world and soon the outer world will cease to matter to you in the same way and you will not mind it when others are puzzled by your strangeness, for you will know that they have a journey of their own to travel and feel compassion for them.

This is truth and let it be known that those that understand you will never be afraid of you for they too have journeyed hard on this road less travelled.

Peace and Love to you,
Always
